Medicine as both science and ancient symbol — the history of looking at the same body and seeing gods, then nerves, then both.
Medicine as both science and ancient symbol. The historical thread is the argument: the history of medicine is the history of looking at the same body and seeing gods, then nerves, then both.
Two images do the heavy lifting on a soft gray gradient — a candy-pink cross-section of a human brain, and above it the golden Eye of Horus, the Egyptian symbol that ancient anatomists mapped, uncannily, onto the very brain structures it sits over. Both are nearly swallowed by giant black letterforms in a rounded Tamil script, with leader lines labeling parts like a textbook diagram. The process work folds in the same timeline: alchemical charts, old engravings, Chinese and Egyptian eye drawings, all describing one organ.
Myth and dissection, finally talking about the same thing.
