Lado Asatiani — Luga Poster Biennale 2024

Poster

A tribute to Georgian poet Lado Asatiani — his verses and a red Georgian chokha turned into a poster that quietly tells you how to live.
A tribute to Lado Asatiani (1917–1943), one of the best-loved Georgian poets of the twentieth century, from Kutaisi. The poster is built from his own words and his country’s dress rather than from his face.
A red traditional Georgian chokha with gold trim hangs at the centre, flanked by large green Mkhedruli letterforms and a faint street map marking Lado Asatiani St, with a strip of red ornamental weave to one side. Along the foot, six short columns translate his verse into a set of instructions — always be brave, wear a Georgian dress, be fearless, be wonderful — closing on his lines about loving your own land and dying like Shushana. A small portrait and the year 1940 anchor the corner.
It was selected for the Luga Poster Biennale, a Luso-Galician, research-led event run by ESMAD/P.PORTO, in its Cultural category — a fitting room for a poster that treats a poet as a way of telling people how to live.
